I was able to get the family out for a day of fishing on the 13th.
The schools of puppy drum were moving around and we picked a few, but overall, the catching was slow, as the fish were being finicky and spooked easily.
Since then the weather has been terrible and I’ve been unable to fish.
The wind has howled all week at 20 mph or more and there isn’t much relief in the next few days.
But– this is April and it’s not that uncommon for this type of pattern.
I am remaining hopeful that this will end soon and allow me to chase the pups again and the citation red drum, as they made a nice showing just prior to this system.
Come on Summer!!
I had 3 different guides this week and all were very successful.
A very nice class of slot limit puppy drum have made a showing.
Fish ranging from 20 inches – 27 inches made their way onto our hooks–with a strong showing of 23 -24 inch fish.
The weather is still very much hit or miss, but I expect the fishing to be fair – good on the nicer days.
I am using light tackle and artificial bait and this is a fun and great way to fish for these powerful inshore fish.
